Zero Carbon Bristol Conference

Is a Zero Carbon Future possible?

Date:

Tuesday 29 June 2010

Time:

9:30am - 4:30pm

Location:

The Watershed, 1 Canons Rd, Harbourside, Bristol, BS1 5TX, United Kingdom

Over 100 people attended Zero Carbon Bristol on June 29th.  One summed it up as the best conference he'd ever attended -- "more like a party".  Videos of the talks are on the Youtube Channel ZeroCarbonBristol.

The event was to consider the question 'Can we create enough food and green energy and reverse emissions and mitigate climate change? Can our cities and countryside restore balance and help each other as well as others?'

Herbie Girardet from the World Future Council gave a view of Cities evolving from Agropolis in the past, through the chaos and dysfunction of Petropolis to the possibility of a more ideal Ecopolis.  He was pleased that the event was emphasising this crucial link between a city and its neighbouring region.

In a straw poll following the presentations,  100% of participants agreed that aiming for 'Zero Carbon' was an appropriate goal.  A third thought it's possible – of the remainder, slightly more weren't sure than thought it was impossible!
